After crossing the river we are treated to the "Z trail". It is only about a 30+ percent grade.Strictly hike a bike!
At the top there is actually a pretty good trail. Still have to walk a few sections but all in all over 90% rideable.
Some really good sections actually!
We did not have the time or energy to go down into Waimanu Valley but sure was beautiful.
We might not have been able to ride up it, but on the way down........ we actually could not ride it all either!
Check out the road on the otherside of the valley. Yikes we still have to ride up that to get back to the truck!

Some beautiful photos! When I took my bike down into the Wapio Valley I must have walked over 90% of the way up, (of course it was night time and pitch black).
I have gone on quite a few rides with these guys and it has been great fun and some really special mountain biking. I have taken some video of several of the rides. You can find them at youtube.com (search for "Jay Lagemann mountain biking" and you'll find them.

I'll be visiting the big island in March. I want to spend a day biking somewhere beautiful. If you had one day to ride any trial on the island....what trail would you ride?
